I'm going to Zurich to work on a book about rent-boys.

I'll be gone until 11 May; then on 13 May I'm flying off again to the States for my brother's graduation. I'll only be back in Singapore for a respectable time from 6 June onwards. So don't call my cellphone.

I have of course set up a blog as a diary for my voyage, but it won't be open to the public to read. I'll put up little excerpts occasionally, or maybe I won't. This is the first sentence I've written:

I don’t know what I’m doing and I’m fucking scared.

Complete the short story with the sentence, with emphasis on correct grammar and spelling. (25%)

And of course, you are only able to do so 'cause your Daddy has the money to finance your outrageous writing retreat.

This should be an inspiring message at the SWF 09. You need to have wealthy dads to be a writer. There is no hope for a struggling writer - people who actually practice real writing like O Thiam Chin, which I think is a far better writer although he is much poorer than you.

Wait, I think he might be richer. You see, the money he has, is his OWN and not routed from his Daddy's account. Such cruel irony.

And of course, despite the beauty that Zurich is, you can only produce work that capitalizes on trite vulgarities. Oooh. How NOVEL.

Actually, my dad didn't give me any money for this. I'm able to do this because of the money from the Singapore Literature Prize. So basically, I'm doing this on taxpayer money - your money. Woot.
